The soldiers in the tunnel cleared the pathway in order for him to come out and it lets us know he was some one with power. The lighting now is shining directly on John. It tells us that someone who reigns over the human race is about to appear. Rewinding back to the big machine rolling over all the skulls shows that more deaths are about to come about. The sound track that introduces us to John Conner is a leader type of music. Although they are attempting to fight back all of the machines have the upper hand. Now Cameron is showing us who is in total control. Living human bodies are running and hiding throughout this scene. A blast of fire behind his head symbolizing war. Special effects allows us to see every hinge and part of the robot. We are in a position based off camera angle it be below the terminator. This lets us know as an audience who has all the power. After the narrator tells up about the tragedy that happened to cause the deaths of some many lives a robotic foot smashes one of the skulls on the ground. Death is all represented throughout the scene. Backing up to where I stated from the start Cameron was informing us of some type of travel. He let us know the contrast between life and death. The next scene went from a happy life to a sad depressing life. Music begins to change as well, but it is more of a crescendo. Innocence and purity are playing a role with the girl. The scene is slowing down and all white screen is coming about. Again with the little girl it is portraying innocence, but behind her is the grown up world. The swing set is placed closer in the frame to us and in the back ground there are buildings of a city. The little girl on the swing is wearing red, symbolizing blood will partake in this scene. He put these two together to contrast good and evil. He is also allowing us to foreshadow that something bad is about to happen due to the background music, but you cannot tell that from the scene. As the scene progressed Cameron wanted us to show us the different ways of travel. Because of all of the robotic characters throughout the movie and to symbolize mobility and traveling. James Cameron started the opening scene with traffic in order to catch our attention.
